Nearly at the first tax year end of using HMRC Basic PAYE Tools for managing payroll and RTI. The only major issue with the HMRC software is the lack of payslip printing; although in a small business, which is what the software is intended for, this can be easily overcome. The software is available from: www.hmrc.gov.uk/payerti/payroll/bpt/paye-tools.htm#8And this thread is intended to offer tips and advice in using the software. First backing up the database, included in the software is a backup / restore function, this method is intended for external backup. Location of the database file on a Windows 8 system: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\HMRC\payetools-rti Right click the sqlite3.db file and select "Send to", "Compressed (zipped) folder" You will now have a file entitled: sqlite3.zip which is the backup of your HMRC Basic PAYE Tools database. You can copy this to a flash drive or other backup medium.
